Porifera : Characteristics and Classification | Biology …

2/21/2019  · Classification of Phylum Porifera. Phylum Porifera is classified into three classes: Calcarea. They are found in marine, shallow, and coastal water. Their skeleton is composed of calcareous spicules made of calcium carbonate. The body is cylindrical and exhibits radial symmetry. The body organization is asconoid, syconoid, or leuconoid.

The representatives of Phylum Porifera are also known as Sponges. They are simple types of aquatic invertebrates. This phylum contains about 10000 species among them, most of the species are Marine and some are freshwater (about 100 species). Their body is asymmetrical or radially symmetrical with a variety of sizes and colors.

12/7/2020  · Phylum Porifera Characteristics Porifera are all aquatic, mostly marine except one family Spongillidae which lives in freshwater. They are sessile and sedentary and grow like plants. The body shape is vase or cylinder-like, asymmetrical, or radially symmetrical.

5/29/2017  · General characteristics of Phylum Porifera . Kingdom: Animalia Habitat: Aquatic, mostly marine, few are terrestrial Habit: They are solitary or colonial. Grade of organization: cellular grade of body Shape: Body shape is variable, mostly cylinder shaped Symmetry: Asymmetrical or radially symmetrical. Germ layer: Diploblastic animals. The adult body wall.

Phylum Porifera (Sponges) Etymology:- From the Latin porus for pore, and Ferre to bear. Hence: an animal with with pores. Characteristics of Porifera: No definite symmetry. Body multicellular, few tissues, no organs. Cells and tissues surround a water filled space but there is no true body cavity. All are sessile (live attached to something as an adult).

There are following characteristics of the phylum Porifera: Their bodies consist of loosely organized cells. They vary in size from less than a centimeter to a mass that can fill your arm. They are asymmetrical or radially symmetrical.

The characteristics of phylum Porifera are 1.Have pores all over the body. 2.Are radially symmetrical. 3.Are diploblastic animals The examples are 1Euplectelea 2.Spongilla 3.Sycon.

10/6/2020  · Firstly the name Porifera (L. Porus = pore ferros = to bear) was first given by Grant in 1836. Characteristics. Porifera are Multicellular organisms. With celular grade of organization. They are aquatic . Body shape is vase-like, cylindrical, tubular. Body is diploblastic. They are sessile & sedentary.
